Contributions come in from every skill level, and the small ones are not the least useful. A good bug report is worth more than a clever refactor nobody asked for.
Ways in
- Star a repository so other people find it
- Report a bug with enough detail to reproduce it
- Send a pull request, however small
- Improve the documentation nobody wants to write
- Tell someone who would use it
Why bother
- Your name is on real, used software
- Small codebases are the good way to learn
- You get to argue with decisions I made at 2am
- Tools stay alive when more than one person cares
- Somebody downstream gets five seconds back
